Makeup Monday: Hot Roller Tutorial

Do you own hot rollers? I bought this set over 10 years ago from Walmart and they still work great. Hot rollers are so amazing because they have the ability to make your hair hold a curl and are super easy to use. If you are curious as to how a hot-curled look turns out or even how to hot roll your hair, please continue reading.

Directions

Apply heat protecting spray before beginning. Part your hair any way that you would like; I chose a middle part. I blow dried my bangs already so they will be staying out of my part.

Section your hair. I like to just part it all the way down the middle so I do one half of my head at a time. My hair is short so you may have to do four sections if you have long hair.

Make an additional part from the center of your hair. This part should only be as wide as your curler.

Grab a section to curl. It should not be too wide.

You can put the curler in the front or back of your piece. I prefer putting it behind. Hold your hair up, slide the curler this high, and then begin to roll back down.

Your first rolls should be next to your part, going back to the crown of your head.

When curling the sides, you are going to go the opposite direction.

After finishing the side of your hair, continue down the back.

When you are finished with your first side, do the same technique on the second side. Notice that you can still see my original part. However you part and curl is going to be how your hair parts when taking the hot roller out.

Last step in rolling, spray with a flexible hold hair spray.

At this point, your hair will look like this:

The way my hair is parted here makes me have a bald spot! LOL

You can also take cute pictures of yourself with the hot rollers in your hair for fun:

Leave your curlers in for at least 20 minutes or until completely cooled. Remove starting where you began and gently pull the roller down to release it from your hair.

Your hair will look at bit crazy at first

But just use your fingers to loosen the curls.

And you are done!

**Do you own hot rollers? Or are you considering buying them? Walmart and Target both carry them for around $30, just check the reviews before purchasing a cheaper brand. I hope that you enjoyed this tutorial and as always, thank you for reading!**

  1. Hot rollers!! I remember the first ones that came out! They were made of metal and weighed a ton each. You clipped them with a rounded metal piece as well. My head got burnt many times as well as my neck and fingers! Plus if I leaned over the tray which was steaming, the steam burnt my face! As bad as all of that was, it was much better than sleeping in rollers though. I used these as a teenager and it was my mom's hot roller set back in the 60's.

    1. LOL OMG Patty!! That is too funny. I tried to sleep with rollers once (non-heat ones) and the curl didn't hold. Glad things aren't so dangerous in the beauty world anymore ;)
