How To Do Wednesday: How To Be Successful At Pinterest

When I first started growing my blog, I was looking for various ways to get my information to the public. While searching the internet, I came across an article that talked about how Pinterest is continuing to grow and now helping business owners reach their audience through pinning. It was genius! I immediately began using my Pinterest account to share my posts. At that time, I had 47 followers.

After weeks went by, pinning was not helping so I started to look for ways to grow my Pinterest page, which would in turn bring traffic to my blog. While I found tons of forums with information from successful Pinners, the following are the tips that worked for me. I now have 260 followers and Pinterest brings at least 100 people per day to my site. So, today I am bringing you my picks for the best Pinterest success tips.

Board Rules
If you want to gain a large Pinterest following, you should have at least 20 boards with at least 20 Pins per board. My suggestion to create this many boards is to have sub boards instead of general topics. For example, instead of having a combination Hair and Makeup Board, make one board for Hair and another for Makeup. Creating multiple boards allows Pinners to follow the topics that interest them most. So instead of having all beauty boards, add cleaning, organization, men's items, etc. While I have seen it rarely, people don't want to follow a disorganized Pinner that adds all pins to one board; not all topics interest everyone.

Be Consistent About Pinning
If you want followers, show Pinterest users that you are committed to Pinning by keeping up with it. I go on at least once a day, even if I only pin 10 items. You will start to notice when the same individuals are pinning your items and this can help your page grow.

Follow As Many Pinners As Possible
Pinterest is definitely its own type of social media because there is minimal interaction with the other users. Pinterest is a website used around the world, which leaves sooo much to offer! And when someone follows you, follow at least one of their boards back. It only takes a few pins for someone to know if you are worth following or not.

Filter Content
Try to be impartial AND try not to offend anyone. There is a lot of vulgar content on Pinterest including racism, nudity, pornography, offensive religious items, political items, and more. Do not participate in spreading those Pins around unless you want to gain a following of the people who also promote that sort of thing. I would never want to offend anyone with my pins so I am cautious about what I repin.

Verify Your Website
Pinterest users with business accounts are able to link their website directly to their Pinterest Wall. And, to link your website must be verified. Now, I don't sell anything on my site but the traffic does give me ad revenue so this is a great tool! For Pinners with EBay or Etsy Accounts, you can Pin your items and link them directly to where the item can be purchased.
