Trial Tuesday: Testing Baking Soda Cleaning Hacks

I am in a Spring Cleaning kind of mood.I have been organizing and cleaning now for the last few weeks. To keep in the Spring cleaning spirit, I have decided to test cleaning hacks for the next few weeks.

This week I will be testing  Baking Soda cleaning hacks. These hacks in particular are supposed to easily remove grease and burns from your oven, cookie sheets, or stainless steel pans.

Cleaning Your Oven
Baking Soda and Water

Before:

I should note that I have a self-cleaning oven that I use (very rarely) because I hate the burning smell that it produces. It's been about 2 months since cleaning the oven with the self-cleaner.

Directions
1. Sprinkle the baking soda directly on the oven surface and door.

2. Slowly add the water.

3. Gently scrub to combine the baking soda and water with a scrubbing pad. You will be creating a paste consistency out of your mixture.

4. Allow the mixture to sit for at least 5 minutes before cleaning the paste off. I let mine sit for 10 minutes. Repeat if necessary.

After:

Results: PASS

This method worked really well, especially on the door. I would do this again. And the best part is that this method is basically natural cleaning.

Burned Stainless Steel Pan
Baking Soda and Vinegar

Before:

Directions:
1. Fill the pot with vinegar.
2. Add your baking soda.

The mixture reacts like acid

3. Allow your mixture to sit for at least 1 hour. I let my mixture sit for 1 1/2 hours.

After:

Results: FAIL

Maybe I should have let it sit for longer? There was nothing floating in the water so I feel like it's safe to say that this doesn't work.

Cookie Sheet Grease Spots
Baking Soda and Hydrogen Peroxide

Before:

Directions:
1. Fill the pan base with Hydrogen Peroxide.
2. Sprinkle baking soda over the Peroxide.

3. Allow your mixture to sit for at least 1 hour.

After:

Results: FAIL

Peroxide does not work much better than vinegar. I really thought that this might work from all of the posts that I saw on Pinterest but it didn't.

**Thanks for reading. I hope that you enjoyed this post. What cleaning hacks should I test next? Let me know in the comments below!**
