Makeup Monday: Favorite Drugstore Mascaras

If your eyes are the window to your soul, then your eyelashes are the curtains and they should look fabulous! Every woman that loves makeup wants long, thick, natural lashes that last all day but sometimes struggle to achieve it. If you are on a budget, the best way to get an expensive look is to build your drugstore mascara collection! I am going to give you a review on a few of my favorite drug store mascaras with pros and cons for each, as well as the average retail price.

1. Maybelline New York Rocket Volum' Express Mascara
        Average Retail Price: $6.00

I discovered this product about a year ago and I love it! It works well and it has very cute packaging, too. :)

Pros: This brush has fine, plastic bristles so you will avoid clumping. The brush also has a wide head with varied sized bristles so it adds quite a bit of volume to lashes.

Cons: I only have one with this mascara and it is that it does not lengthen your lashes.

2. Maybelline New York The Colossal Cat Eyes Mascara
        Average Retail Price: $6.00

Sadly, I would never use this product alone. I bought this mascara on a whim and was not impressed but paired with other mascaras, it can really enhance your lashes!

Pros: The brush is curved which catches your outer lashes and lengthens them. The brush is also wide so you get all of the lashes on the brush with one coat.  Like I said before, it is great on top of another mascara. I typically pair this with my Rocket mascara to get the length and volume that I desire for my lashes.

Cons: The main reason that I would not use this product alone is because it does not add volume. The brush also clumps so you can plan on wiping the tip off before each use.

3. Covergirl Lashblast Length Mascara
        Average Retail Price: $7.00

I just bought this with a coupon for $3.00 and I love it! While this mascara's packaging is very boring, it is a great product.

Pros: The brush on this mascara is really nice because it is plastic bristles so it won't clump, and it has a huge applicator brush. The bristles are long on one side and short on the other so it creates both volume and length with a few coats in different directions.

Cons: The only con with this product is the length of the applicator stick because it is pretty ridiculous. When I put the product on, I feel like the stick to the handle is in my face and about to touch my nose at any moment. There is nothing more annoying than trying to get mascara blots off of your freshly made-up face.

4. L'oreal Voluminous Waterproof Mascara
        Average Retail Price: $6.00

This used to be the only drugstore mascara that I would buy because it works so well. I would highly recommend this product to someone for an everyday makeup look.

Pros: The brush applicator is large and the head is full. This brush holds a lot of product and does not clump when being applied. It is long lasting and gives a natural look to your lashes.

Cons: It just looks too natural if you are trying to get a more dramatic look. While it is a great product, it could add more length or volume or maybe it isn't dark enough I don't know. Like I said, this is great for a natural, everyday look.

Mascara tips:

-Use your finger to hold up your eyebrow to get the length that you desire from your mascara
-Mascara lasts 3-4 months before you should throw it away
-Using a lash curler before applying mascara will help you avoid clumping
