Drug Store Beauty Basics
I love makeup but buying it can get expensive, especially for
high-end products. To offset the amount that I spend on my makeup essentials, I
try to use budget-brands for basic makeup products. Since I have a few budget products
that I keep buying again, I decided to share my top picks for budget makeup.
Elf Eyelid Primer
-Retails at
Target for $1
Eyelid primer is used to keep your eye shadow on for a long
period of time without touch-ups and also keeps the shadow from creasing. This
product is wonderful because it is so cheap! I have heard mixed reviews about
this primer, but I have learned to use it properly and I am about to share how
with you! This primer tends to become like liquid if it gets cold. Primer
should be creamy. To make your Elf Primer creamy, just hold it in your palm for
a minute before using it. The heat from your hand will warm the plastic and the
primer will become a cream.
LA Colors-
Eye Shadow
-Retails at
Family Dollar and Dollar Tree for $1
While I have only tried the eye shadow from this brand, the
bold colors that are offered are amazing because they are so pigmented! LA
Colors brand offers a ton of different bright blues, pinks, greens, and purples
that also look great on your lower lash line if you want to wear this product
as a highlight. For neon like colors, a white base (shadow) will really make
these shadows pop. Unfortunately, the bright color only lasts a few hours
before you need a touch-up, but for a dollar it’s worth the effort!
Cucumber Melon |
EOS Lip
Balm
-Retails at
all drug stores for about $2.99
EOS Balms are hands down the
best lip balm that you can find. EOS smells great, feels like lotion on your
lips, and lasts FOREVER! Yes, your $2.99 is probably a six-month investment
when it comes to lip balm. During the holidays, you can find 4-piece gift sets
for around $9.99 at Target. These make great stocking stuffers for men and
women.
Wet n Wild-
Blush
-Retails at
Target for $2.99
This is my everyday blush brand. I would have to say that for
being a budget-brand makeup, this blush works like a high end product. While
Wet n Wild does not offer much for variety in color selection, all of the blush’s
colors are true to the package. The blush will also last all day and the amount
of product that you get for your money will keep your cheeks rosy for months. Wet
n Wild’s blush is definitely a steal!
ELF Makeup
Mist & Set
-Retails at
Target for $3
ELF Makeup Mist & Set is infused with Aloe, Green Tea, Cucumber,
and Vitamins A, C, and E. This spray is used to set your makeup so that it
stays on all day. This product is great for people who sweat in their faces. It
also works just as well as higher end products and is way less expensive. While
I don’t use makeup mist everyday to set my face, I like using it when it’s
really hot or when I am going to a party or other special event. Makeup mist
allows you to be camera ready in an instant!
Petal Pusher- #736 |
Wet n Wild-
Eye Shadow Pallets
-The COLOR ICON
Collection retails at Target for $3.99
Wet n Wild offers some great pallets for an even better price,
offering 8 different colors for under $4. While Wet n Wild’s colors definitely needs a
primer base, but keep their color all day so no touch-ups will be needed. As a bonus, Wet n Wild also
labels the pallets with a stamp in the eye shadow so that you what colors that
you need to achieve a professional look.

Money Saving Tips
If you are on a budget and are opting for drug store makeup,
purchase your makeup when it is on sale, even if you don’t need it at that
time. You can also find some great makeup coupons in your Sunday paper,
sometimes offering up to $3 off of certain brands.
Thanks Jess for the great help
