Thrifty Thursday: DIY Vinyl Record Bowl

Sorry for defacing this if you are really into Seals & Crofts!
I came across this DIY idea last year when looking for DIY Christmas gift ideas. Vinyl records are a great material to re-purpose because you may have some already, or you can buy them for less than a dollar at most thrift stores. Please be sure to follow exact temperature instructions so that you don't release any toxic fumes into your oven.

What You Will Need
  • Vinyl Record
  • Cookie Sheet
  • Wax Paper
  • Bunt Pan or Small Pot
  • Medium Sized Bowl
  • Spray Paint (Optional)

Directions
1. Set your oven to 200 degrees Fahrenheit. DO NOT EXCEED 200 degrees!

2. Place wax paper on a cookie sheet. Then, put an upside down bunt pan or small pot on top.

3. Put record in the oven and bake for 5-7 minutes.

Your record will start to fold over when heating properly. When all of the sides are folded over, it should be ready to be removed.

4. Open the oven door and place your bowl at the edge of the door nearest to the oven.

5. As I said before, it won't be too hot to touch so just grab the corner and pull it into your bowl.

6. Press down on the bowl center and then mold the sides how you would like. YOU MUST WORK FAST because the record will start to harden instantly.

Please keep in mind that the size of your record is up to you, it really just depends what size bowl that you use.

7. At this point you can spray paint your record bowl or leave it as is. I typically pick records with awesome labels so I leave them as is.
I think that this bowl would look great with a metallic or antique spray paint finish, though.

How To Use It

Bracelet Holder

Nail Polish Holder

**Thank you so much for reading! Let me know in the comments below if you will try this DIY and if you will leave the record as is or spray paint it. Happy Thursday!**

Comments

  1. The bowl looks great but it hurt to see the record being melted!! Those were the only form of music for me from the 50's thru the 60's! Ha ha!
